Important Updates and Reminders for KMS Families and Students

Dear KMS Families and Students,

It's hard to believe that Quarter 3 is already over! All Q3 grades will be posted on Infinite Campus by this Friday. I would like to clarify that the times for the Washington DC trip and Chicago trip were not accurately communicated in my previous newsletter. Please take note that the 8th-grade Washington DC trip parent meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 12 at 6:30, followed by the 7th-grade Chicago trip meeting at 7:15 in the KMS cafeteria.

This Friday, we will be following a Midday Assembly Schedule along with the high school, as they host the United Way Volleyball Championship Games. The first game will feature student teams competing for the championship, with the winning team facing off against a team of high school staff members. The midday assembly schedule can be found at the end of this email.

I urge you to have a discussion with your child about the importance of adhering to the rules outlined in the student handbook. Recently, we have had multiple instances of students receiving referrals to the office for using their smartwatches inappropriately. While I have clarified in each class that smartwatches are permissible if used solely as a watch, using them as an extension of a phone is not allowed. If this behavior persists, smartwatches will be treated the same as phones and will need to be kept in students' lockers from 7:30 to 2:30.

Another concern I would like to address is students leaving designated areas without permission. For example, some students request to visit the nurse, but instead of returning to class after a brief check-up with Ms. Crawford, they meet up with friends and spend extended periods in the bathroom. This poses a significant issue as teachers expect students to be where they are supposed to be. While this may seem minor, it is crucial in a school environment. With upcoming trips, it is essential for everyone to understand that trust is paramount. If students cannot be relied upon to be truthful about their whereabouts at school, it may impact their eligibility for class trips.

Both my chaperones and I agree that honesty and accountability are vital, especially as we prepare for trips to larger cities. If students cannot be truthful about their actions within the school premises, it raises concerns about their behavior in unfamiliar settings.

Thank you for your attention to these matters, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Midday Assembly
