KES Update August 25th, 2023

KES Update October 24, 2023

Hello KES! We have been celebrating success lately! KES was recently awarded PBIS Gold for the wide variety of positive behavior supports we have in place for students. We are also very proud to announce that we earned 5 stars on the State Report Card, which indicates that we significantly exceed state standards. All of this success is the result of a very dedicated staff, hard-working students and supportive families. Thank you!

We hope you are enjoying this beautiful October sunshine! There are still some days left to complete the October Family Checklist of fun experiences together. Your child should turn those in to Miss Burwell next week to enter a drawing for some fun prizes. A reminder that we do not have school on Friday Oct. 27 as teachers will be participating in professional development. Halloween is just around the corner! We are all very excited. More details are shared below.

KES Report Cards

Kirtland Elementary School has to a new report card system (K-4), to reflect students’ learning progress. Our goal is to provide you with a report card that better reflects your child’s progress towards mastery of key skills in each grade and subject. We will print reports cards and send them home for the first grading period this school year. They can also be accessed through IC.

If you see a blank spot on the report card that means that specific standard was not taught/assessed during the current grading period.

Your child's teacher will communicate more specifically, but I am sharing the building-wide grading system for academic progress and general explanation/criteria so that you are aware as you begin to see graded work coming home with marks you may not recognize.

CM - Consistently shows Mastery - Met end of year grade level standards and may be ready to work at greater depth

EP - Performance as Expected - Student demonstrates expected progress toward meeting end of year grade level standards

MT - More Time to Develop - Student is developing and needs additional support, practice and time to develop mastery of the skill

NS - Needs Support - Student does not demonstrate acceptable skill and will continue to receive direct support

All Students K-5 will be given progress marks for Hornet Traits (behavior) in academic and Specials areas.
