KMS Update - 8/27/23

KMS UPDATE August 27, 2023

KMS Parents and Students,

Hello! I hope you all had an uneventful night on Friday despite the storms, and for those who experienced power outages, I hope everything is up and running smoothly now. I'm thrilled to report that the first week and a half at the middle school has been nothing short of seamless. Our incredible KMS students returned with enthusiasm, ready to give their best, reconnect with friends, and settle back into the school routine. It's been an absolutely fantastic start to the year! Speaking of great experiences, last night's football game was not only a thrilling match for the high school team but also an incredible opportunity for our KMS students to enjoy the brand-new stadium! Let's make this year one to remember!

  • Safety Week - KLSD will run a series of safety drills next week. These are only drills. We will be sure to communicate that clearly to the students. Prior to each drill, teachers will discuss what we are doing and why, as well assure the students that we are practicing situations so that we can keep each other safe. We will perform a lockdown and barricade drill, a mass evacuation drill, and a situational drill or a combination of both (barricade or evacuate). You can help by talking to your children at home about the importance of safety drills at school and reminding them not to worry, as we are just practicing! Thanks!

Congratulations 7th grader, Cole Nowacki

Last school year, now 7th grader Cole Nowacki participated in the American Statistical Association’s, Ohio Data Visualization Poster Competition. A data visualization poster is a display containing two or more related graphics that summarize a set of data, look at the data from different points of view, and answer specific questions about the data. With the help of his math teacher, Mrs. Marko. Cole selected a topic of interest to him (video gaming), identified his research questions, developed survey questions, created a google form to collect data, administered a survey to his fellow KMS 6th & 7th graders and then created visualizations of the resulting data to put on his poster. He submitted his poster in March 2023 to the Ohio Data Visualization competition. In April, we learned that Cole won first place in Ohio in the 4-6 grade division. He was awarded a certificate, a monetary award and his submission was forwarded on to the National Data Visualization competition where students from all 50 states compete. Winners were just announced in the latest issue of AMSTAT News (see attached) and Cole won first place in the National competition in the 4-6 grade division!!!! Congratulations Cole, KMS is super proud of this outstanding achievement.
