KMS Update - 11/27/23

KMS UPDATE November 27, 2023

KMS Parents and Students,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and the extended break brought lots of rest and relaxation. It is hard to believe we are already just a few days away from December and down to 17 school days before the end of the semester. The girls 7th and 8th grade basketball season begins this week, along with the wrestling team starting next week. Please click on the link to take you to the new athletic schedules posted on the Kirtland Website. https://www.kirtlandschools.org/AthleticSchedules.aspx Have a great winter season Hornets! This week will have a lot of changes because of the State Football Title Game on Friday. I sent out a previous email explaining the 3 scenarios for students on Friday. That information is included again in the newsletter. Please make sure to fill out the Student Attendance Google Form by the end of the day Tuesday for attendance purposes on Friday. Have a great next two weeks!

Mr. Race

Annie’s positive attitude and respectful demeanor make her a joy to have in class. Not only does Annie excel academically, but she also sets a remarkable example for her peers. Her dedication, respect, and hard work serve as an inspiration to us all. Let us celebrate Annie’s achievements and applaud her for being an exceptional student and an even more exceptional individual. Congratulations, Annie!!!

KMS FIRST LEGO Leagues (FLL)

KMS FIRST LEGO Leagues competed at the Aurora competition on Saturday November 18th. Both robotics teams were asked to create an innovation project, build and program a robot and give a presentation on their teamwork. Steel Stingers won the Motivate Award. This award celebrates a team that embraces the culture of FIRST LEGO League through team building, team spirit and displayed enthusiasm. Our send FLL team the Hungry Hungry Hornets won the Champion's Award. This award celebrates a team that embodies the FIRST LEGO League Challenge experience, by fully embracing our Core Values while achieving excellence and innovation in Robot Performance, Robot Design and the Innovation Project. This is the highest award at the competition and the first time the KMS have earned this award. Each team was selected to advance to the district tournament in January. Congratulations and good luck to both teams on the advancement.

Friday's State Title Game Information for Parents

A HUGE congratulations to our Kirtland High School football team. They will be playing for the State Championship on Friday, December 1st at 10:30 am at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton. This is an amazing accomplishment for our players, coaches, band, and cheerleaders. Also, a big thank you to our Athletic Boosters, Music Boosters, Football Moms, and parents/community members for supporting our Student-Athletes.

Since the State Championship is taking place during the school day, it's important that we know where all students will be on that day. All families must fill out the google form below FOR EACH of their students in grades 6-12 who are not participating in the game (players, band, cheerleaders, etc.). Mr. Puskas will be sending out the same form to High School families. This will allow us to keep track of all students and plan that day accordingly. Thank you for taking the time to fill out the form.

  3. Your student will report to school and ride the Spirit Bus to and from the game via district transportation

Again, please fill out the form for each student you have in grades 6-12 (except those involved in the game), by noting where they will be on December 1st. Please have this complete for each student by the end of the school day on Tuesday, November 28th. Thank you and contact me with any questions.

Kirtland Academic Academy

The idea for KAA came out of a series of discussions the Building Leadership Team had regarding our desire to help students who need a little assistance every so often, while also trying to hold students with high amounts of missing work accountable. Missing work can have such a profoundly negative impact on student learning and success within the classroom and we want to provide something that can help. We believe that this program is a tremendous opportunity for kids who need help getting back on track, while also supporting students that just need a bit of assistance every now and again.

All KMS students are welcome at KAA. The academic team - including teachers, parents, and administrators - has the discretion to make this program mandatory for students with excessive missing work which negatively impacts student learning and success within the classroom.

In many ways, KAA is homework help, tutoring, and general academic assistance for any KMS student in attendance. KMS students do not need to sign up for KAA. They simply need to show up with things they want to work on, sign in, and get the help they need. We are confident that this process will help these students find great success.

Lost and Not Yet Found Items

The lost and found area is no longer filling up but has exploded onto another table!!! Please remind your son or daughter to check the area in the lobby, if they are missing lunch boxes, water bottles, coats, shirts, hoodies, etc. If they are missing anything there is a good chance it is there. There is a lot of really nice stuff that needs to find its way back to it's owner.

Kirtland Middle School - Important Dates 2023-2024

The link provided will take you the Kirtland Middle School - Important Dates for the 23-24 school year. There are still a few things that need to be added at the end of the school year, but they will be updated in the next couple of days. My goal for the year is to be as transparent as possible to major events taking place down the road at the school. I will continue to add to the important date section of the newsletter for upcoming events, but if you are wanting to plan for things, please refer to this document.
