Hello KES Families - I hope you enjoyed the long weekend!

January is Board Of Education Appreciation month. A genuine thank you to our Kirtland Board of Education for your dedication to our schools and willingness to support us as we learn and grow together.

Later this week, we will be participating in an All School Morning Meeting (on Thursday) and an assembly (on Friday) made possible by our Student Council. The Assembly is the Super U Challenge and is an interactive show that is based around positive behavior and character building traits that promote respecting each other, building trust and choosing words and actions carefully. We know that our Hornets have the ability to make choices that contribute to making our school great, strengthen friendships and encourage kindness. As you know, KES was recently recognized as a PBIS GOLD school. We are very proud of this accomplishment. To celebrate such a collective contribution to success, every student and staff member will be receiving a "Proud to be a HORNET" shirt this week. Please have your child(ren) wear this shirt on Friday for the assembly. A genuine thank you to our entire KES family - staff, students, and parents - for nurturing a positive culture of care and kindness. Also, thank you to Mr. Lasecki who helped make the shirt production a success. We are excited to show our HORNET pride!

We are excited to announce the naming of the KES Student Wellness Room as the Abriana Camino Wellness Room! The incentive for the class with the highest amount of walk-a-thon donations was to name the room. Congratulations to Mrs. Grandini's class! In addition to this incentive, each highest earning class from each grade level earned a treat from the PTA. We celebrated the unveiling of the new signs and most recently purchased equipment with the Camino family. Thank you to our third graders who decorated the space with some beautiful butterflies too! The room is still a work in progress and will continue to grow as we are able to purchase more equipment.

This month we encourage students and family to participate in January's Wellness Challenge: A Happier January! All you have to do is complete activities from this month's Action for Happiness Calendar that can be found here. Those who participate and complete this form are eligible to win great prizes!

The drop off and pickup line for car riders is growing. We are thankful to have parents who enjoy driving students to and from school, but we really need your help in order to ensure safety.

Please keep these things in mind:

• Stay in your car and move through the line.
• Pull all the way up to where the staff member is standing (near the high school).
• Adjust car seats/boosters so that your child can get in the car from the passenger side.
• Never allow your child to cross traffic when getting in or out of the car.

We are happy to help anyone who needs it! We just want to make sure that the line moves quickly and that everyone stays safe.

• Please be sure that your child knows how he/she is getting home each day. Be sure to indicate it on the calendar in the take-home folder as well. 
• For dismissal changes, contact the KES office before 2:00 so that we can adjust our lists and let the teachers know.
