KES Update - September 21, 2023

Hello KES! We have so much to be thankful for. Last week, the KHS football team and cheerleaders welcomed our students at car and bus arrival! It was wonderful to see the smiles on the faces of all. Later that same day, hundreds of Hornets and their families participated in the walk-a-thon. It was a beautiful evening. This week has been filled with spirit! During Start With Hello week, we wore green, reached out to students we don't already know to make new friends, and made a pledge to Stick Together! Our first all school morning meeting was a success! If you don't already follow me on X (Twitter) , please do (@mrsnagaj), so that you can see all of the amazing things that go on here at KES every day. Just a reminder - no students tomorrow. Our staff will be participating in Professional Development. Enjoy your weekend!

Car Drop Off/Pick up Reminders:

If your child is a car rider, please refer to the traffic map shared below for a reminder of the procedure. Thank you for your patience, as we get everyone unloaded/loaded safely and in a timely manner. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Please do not get out of your cars in the line so that we can keep traffic moving.

  • Please do not let your child(ren) out of the car in the loop closest to the flag pole. We teach them to exit only from the line nearest to the building so that nobody is crossing through traffic.

  • Please do not allow your child(ren) to exit cars until 8:25 when the staff is outside to help. Thanks for your help!

KES Report Cards

Kirtland Elementary School is shifting to a new report card system, to reflect students’ learning progress. Our goal is to provide you with a report card that better reflects your child’s progress towards mastery of key skills in each grade and subject.

Over the past year, our staff worked closely with the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio to review the structure of our current report cards. We developed a more informative method to communicate how your child is developing throughout the school year, placing the focus right where it needs to be–on the learning.

Teachers are able to gather information on your child, come together as a team, and more authentically communicate student growth throughout the year to you. It will allow you to know more deeply how your child is progressing and in the ways they need to improve on specific year-long learning standards.

PTA update

Our PTA supports us in so many ways. Thank you for helping with the Walk-a-thon! We are looking forward to our Halloween celebration which will take place on October 31. More information will be shared soon.
