KES Update - October 10, 2023

Happy Fall KES! The sun is shining, the leaves are turning color, and our Hornets are working hard! Have you started the October Family Wellness Checklist? Lots of fun fall experiences for our Hornets! Some exciting updates to report: Student Council has gotten started. The student wellness room is in use each day. Be sure to ask your child about it! Mrs. G has brought her students in to introduce the equipment and now teachers are using it throughout the day for brain breaks and other movement opportunities. We had our first all-school morning meeting, led by Mrs. Karikas' homeroom. We also watched the KES PBIS Video together as it revisits the behavior expectations. Be sure to watch it at home too (link shared below)! We had popcorn day last week - thank you PTA! Our first skate party is just around the corner and then Halloween will be here! More information will be coming home specifically about Halloween. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

A note from Miss Jacobucci...

Hello KES Families,

Don't forget to check out your child's artwork on Artsonia, where you will find their digital art portfolio (www.artsonia.com). Be sure to browse the gift shop, where you can find your child's artwork on items such as tote bags, coffee mugs, and magnets. Artsonia donates a small percentage of each purchase to the KES art room for extra art supplies throughout the year. Currently, there is a sale on t-shirts, jewelry and other great gifts when you order by October 15th. Thank you for your support! Don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions. valerie.jacobucci@kirtlandschools.org

Sincerely,

Miss Jacobucci

KES Report Cards

As mentioned before, Kirtland Elementary School is shifting to a new report card system (K-4), to reflect students’ learning progress. Our goal is to provide you with a report card that better reflects your child’s progress towards mastery of key skills in each grade and subject.

Your child's teacher will communicate more specifically, but I am sharing the building-wide grading system for academic progress and general explanation/criteria so that you are aware as you begin to see graded work coming home with marks you may not recognize.

CM - Consistently shows Mastery - Met end of year grade level standards and may be ready to work at greater depth

EP - Performance as Expected - Student demonstrates expected progress toward meeting end of year grade level standards

MT - More Time to Develop - Student is developing and needs additional support, practice and time to develop mastery of the skill

NS - Needs Support - Student does not demonstrate acceptable skill and will continue to receive direct support

All Students K-5 will be given progress marks for Hornet Traits (behavior) in academic and Specials areas.

Car Drop Off/Pick up Reminders:

If your child is a car rider, please refer to the traffic map shared below for a reminder of the procedure. Thank you for your patience, as we get everyone unloaded/loaded safely and in a timely manner. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Please do not get out of your cars in the line so that we can keep traffic moving.

  • Please do not let your child(ren) out of the car in the loop closest to the flag pole. We teach them to exit only from the line nearest to the building so that nobody is crossing through traffic.

  • Please do not allow your child(ren) to exit cars until 8:25 when the staff is outside to help. Thanks for your help!
